Job Description

Account Director, Forward Shift Strategies

About Us

Forward Shift Strategies is a communications firm taking on work that changes the world. We are veterans of advocacy, social justice, and political campaigns powering bold causes and candidates to victory. Fueled by passion for results and driven by values, our team brings smart communications, messaging, and digital strategies to clients making communities better for everyone.

We are seeking an Account Director to join our nimble, dynamic, results-driven firm. We work primarily with nonprofit organizations advancing racial, social, and economic justice, protecting democracy, and fighting climate change; we increasingly work with political parties and committees. The right candidate will be motivated by impact and results and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

In this role, you'll be a leader on our team, working directly with the founder, advising on company operations, and leading client projects. You'll play a key role in managing client relationships, developing strategic content, formulating communications strategies, and keeping projects running on time and on budget.

About You

  • You are strategic, creative, focused, and driven by impact.
  • You are passionate about racial, social, and economic justice, protecting democracy, and creating a more sustainable future.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment, can utilize your time well, and maintain attention to detail while managing multiple priorities.
  • You are a good listener and a strong communicator who can build trust with clients and make strategic recommendations with confidence.
  • You excel at problem-solving, communicating clearly, and keeping a calm head in a crisis.
  • You are self-motivated, reliable, and proactive, remaining ready to anticipate challenges and move quickly to address them.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of communications/PR agency experience, ideally serving campaigns, nonprofit, or cause-related organizations. Or similar in-house experience in account management, communications strategy, and project management for nonprofit or advocacy organizations, or political campaigns.
  • Ability to produce high-quality, error-free copy and content for clients. Writing and editing that results in clear, strategic, and compelling content that embraces and adapts to each client's unique voice.
  • Ability to lead client projects and manage and strengthen client relationships.
  • Interest in managing junior-level team members and coaching staff to develop skills, produce quality work, and achieve their own career goals.
  • Experience crafting and executing digital and earned media strategies, proven success in pitching and placing stories.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred, with the ability to craft culturally responsive and relevant messaging for a variety of key demographic sectors.

Job Duties

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager and project lead for your own book of client accounts, ensuring clear, friendly communication and high-quality service delivery.
  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans, messaging, content, and client campaigns.
  • Edit and approve content developed by the FSS team, ensuring it aligns with client goals and adheres to our quality standards.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to junior team members.
  • Monitor project budgets, timelines, and staff hours, ensuring projects stay on time and within budget.
  • Help develop new business opportunities through networking and relationship-building.

Location

  • This role is fully remote. You can work from anywhere in the United States, provided you can be available from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Pacific or Mountain time.
  • Occasional travel may be required for team meetings or client engagements.

Compensation and Terms

  • Starting annualized salary of $84,000-$94,000, commensurate with experience.
  • This is a 1099 contract position for a 6-month initial trial period, with an opportunity to extend.

Equal Opportunity Employer

We encourage applications from individuals of all genders and backgrounds, including but not limited to Black, Indigenous, people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people with disabilities.
