We are recruiting on purpose a Bridge Inspector for our clients at Mobile County, AL. 

Job Title: Bridge Inspector (Levels I – Senior)

Overview
Bridge Inspectors will play a vital role in verifying construction quality, materials testing, and fabrication oversight as part of the Owner’s Verification (OV) team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a once-in-a-generation infrastructure project while gaining exposure to advanced bridge construction techniques such as cable-stayed structures, deep foundations, bonded post-tensioning, and high-volume urban MOT. Positions are available at multiple levels, with placement based on experience, certifications, and professional interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Inspection & Oversight

    • Perform site inspections to verify compliance with Released-for-Construction (RFC) documents and ALDOT’s Construction Quality Management Plan (CQMP).

    • Review and validate inspection and materials testing performed by the Independent Quality Firm (IQF).

    • Submit detailed daily reports in SYNCHRO and other ALDOT-authorized systems.

    • Conduct or witness field tests on concrete, asphalt, soils, and aggregates.

    • Track and audit non-conformance reports (NCRs), RFIs, material receipts, and corrective actions.

  • Fabrication & Casting Yard Oversight

    • Inspect casting yards and fabrication shops, monitoring production of precast girders, deck panels, piles, and steel bridge components.

    • Ensure compliance with approved shop drawings, post-tensioning (PT) and grouting specifications, and material traceability.

  • Documentation & Reporting

    • Maintain organized project records and support audit readiness.

    • Assist Project Engineers with verification testing, audit tracking, and field reviews.

    • Contribute to quarterly FHWA reports and other compliance documentation.

  • Collaboration & Mentorship

    • Work closely with senior staff, project engineers, and ALDOT to uphold OV standards.

    • Coordinate with the IQF and Design-Builder on field activities.

    • Mentor and train junior inspectors (Senior level responsibility).

Position Levels & Qualifications

  • Level I (Entry)

    • High school diploma or GED.

    • 0–2 years’ experience in construction inspection or materials testing.

    • Certifications: ACI Concrete Technician, ALDOT Certification, Asphalt Roadway Technician, Work Zone Safety.

    • Strong interest in bridge and transportation inspection practices.

  • Level II (Intermediate)

    • 3–5 years’ experience in bridge or roadway inspection.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred.

    • Certifications may include: ACI/ALDOT Concrete Technician, Post-Tension Institute (PTI) Level I & II, ASBI Grouting Technician, Asphalt Technician (Lab/Roadway), Radiological Safety, CWI, or Qualified Credentialed Inspector depending on assignment (field, casting yard, or fabrication shop).

  • Senior Level (Advanced)

    • 8+ years’ experience in bridge inspection, structural steel fabrication, or casting yard oversight.

    • Strong expertise in complex bridge systems, QA/QC documentation, and advanced construction techniques.

    • Professional licensure (PE) or NICET Level III preferred.

    • Demonstrated experience in post-tensioning, grouting, or segmental bridge construction highly valued.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
This role requires frequent fieldwork in outdoor environments, including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in variable weather conditions. Night and weekend shifts may be required. Reasonable accommodations will be provided where needed.
